I took wonderful advantage of my camera's zoom properties so you could get a better close-up view of the famed strip itself. Now if only I could have gotten the exact same shot at night...ah well. But to gain an appreciation for how long the strip is, from my photo-taking location to that last big building in the top photo is about 5 miles. After soaking in all the visual overload on this side of the tower, I walked around to the other side and snagged a shot of the original "downtown" Vegas. Kinda pales in comparison, doesn't it. However, it has been renovated significantly. These days, it's referred to as the "Fremont Street Experience". Apparently they covered a good stretch of the street with a ceiling and stuck a lightbulb on every single visible surface. Can you imagine the number of seizures 2.1 million flashing lights can cause?? Many of the old school casinos are still here, like the Golden Nugget and the Lady Luck. After all the walking I had done, I was not going to travel by foot there. They do have public transportation for around $1.50 or so, but I was far too masochistic to consider it. Again, the mantra was "I'll do it next trip."
