And here she is. Las Vegas. "The Fertile Plain". Well, at least she used to be, before this mass of development kicked in. Las Vegas is the fastest growing city in the country (according to the 2000 Census). And this is only half of it. I did my usual 180 degree panoramic point and shoot and mosaic. As you can see, the whole city lies in a valley of sorts, surrounded by mountains as far as the eye can see. These pictures were taken facing "south" so I could capture the entire strip, which is roughly centered. On the left hand side you see some nice green grass which belongs to the country club golf course. It is the *only* large area of grass around. You can imagine the drain on both water and electricity resources from the city, so excessive vegetation is shunned. Once you get away from the congested areas, the housing is reminiscent of the 50's development boom... row after row of identical lots of single family houses. It might be a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here.
