Boston was in the 60's when I left. Vegas was in the 90's. It was a dry heat, but it was hot nonetheless. When I had seen maps of the strip, it looked like it could be easily walked. Boy was I wrong. That sucker is over 5 miles long! But I'm a stubborn fool, so I was determined to walk to the Hard Rock Cafe to find a particular restaurant referred to as having the "best meal" around. I think I took a wrong turn though because I ended up walking through a couple residential neighborhoods. Lots of identical sandstony structures which looked like they housed many of the hotel's staff. Eventually I got past them and found my bearings, but it took me damned near an hour to reach my destination. So I finally got there, took the requisite picture, and went to "Mr. Lucky's 24/7" for the surreptitiously advertised surf and turf meal (it's not on the printed menu, you have to request it). It really hit the spot, and was as good as they said. Price isn't $5.95 anymore though, now it's $7.77. But still a very nice deal. With my tummy happy, I took a picture of the casino in the hotel, and then digitally enshrined the very first slot machine I put a quarter into. I lost. But it will still be remembered as my very first Las Vegas quarter slot and holds a special place in my heart.
